BAND INFORMATION LETTER AND REGISTRATION FORM

BAND SCHEDULE
All students will receive one 30-minute lesson per week on their selected instrument. Small groups will be created based on grade level and instruments. In addition to their small group lessons, students will rehearse for 40-minutes once per week with the full band. The band lesson schedule will be posted here in mid-late September once registration is complete and schedules are coordinated. All lessons and rehearsals are held during the normal school day.
Tuesdays 9th Period: 4th Grade/Beginner Full Band Rehearsal
Thursdays 9th Period: 5th/6th Grade/Intermediate Full Band Rehearsal
PRACTICE RECOMMENDATIONS
4th Grade students should practice at least 5 days per week - 10 minutes each day.
5th Grade students should practice at least 5 days per week - 15 minutes each day.
6th Grade students should practice at least 5 days per week - 15 minutes each day.
INSTRUMENT OPTIONS
Lessons are offered in the following instruments: Flute, Clarinet, Saxophone, Trumpet, Trombone, Percussion (Mallets/Bells and Unpitched Percussion focussing on the Snare Drum), and Bass Guitar (instrument groups are limited in size).
INSTRUMENT RENTALS and MATERIALS
Please arrange for your instrument rental or have a previously owned instrument checked by a professional. Lebanon Borough School deals directly with two rental companies: K&S Music (school code 5110 for 10-months or 5114 for 4-months) and Hunterdon Music.

In addition to an instrument, your child will also need the following:

ALL INSTRUMENTS:
1. REQUIRED FOR ALL GRADES AND INSTRUMENTS: A music book: “Standard of Excellence Enhanced Comprehensive Band Method Book 1 for (your instrument)” by Bruce Pearson. ” (Available at most instrument vendors and also Amazon.) This may already be included in your rental (depending on the company) but, you will need to specify the book. Click to order your book from Hunterdon Music.
2. A music stand - highly recommended but, this is not required (necessary to promote proper posture during at-home practice)

CLARINET: Box of reeds- I recommend starting with strength 2 (though you may move up to 2.5), Rico is a recommended brand.
SAXOPHONE: Box of reeds- I recommend starting with strength 2 (though you may move up to 2.5), Rico is a recommended brand.
TRUMPET: valve oil
TROMBONE: slide oil
BASS GUITAR: Extra set of strings, bass guitar cable (for the amp), ideally your own small amplifier for home
PERCUSSION: You will be renting a bell kit. Please purchase a drum pad and drum sticks (if not included in your rental).
